Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) is a advanced wastewater treatment technology that combines two processes:
Biological treatment – using microorganisms (activated sludge) to break down organic pollutants and nutrients.
Membrane filtration – using porous membranes ( hollow fiber) to physically separate treated water from the biomass.
In an MBR, the membranes are submerged in the biological reactor or placed in a separate tank. They replace the conventional secondary clarifier used in traditional activated sludge systems.
